Step 6: Run Your Own Material Through It
Non-negotiable. "The machine runs great on our material" is what they say. It's not your material.
Bring a few sheets of what you process daily, and run them through the machine. Measure the results against your tolerances, not the published spec.
A vendor once told me their used laser held 0.05mm on 3mm stainless. We ran our material and measured 0.15mm—which was within their published spec but outside our customer's requirement. The machine was fine for someone. Just not for us. That's the nuance nobody puts in the brochure.

Trusting pictures and video. You can't hear a pump strain or feel a loose axis through a screen. If you can't visit the machine, pay a third-party inspector. It's worth the $500–800, and the distance between camera angle and reality can be huge.
